Olympus Stylus Tough TG-870 takes camera durability to the next levelOlympus announced the latest Stylus Tough TG-870 at CES 2016, the new addition to its rugged point-and-shoot camera series. The Olympus compact cameras are designed to be abused in any way possible by users. You drop it, dunk, or freeze it but Stylus TG-870 will survive. Olympus has come up one new feature: a complete 180-degree tilting LCD display, which is rare in such durable camera. You don’t need to worry about the display as it remains tough as ever, even if it has double resolution and improved brightness as compared to its predecessor Olympus Stylus TG-860. As always, Olympus has not compromised with any feature to get the ruggedness, as Stylus TG-870 features 16-megapixel 16-megapixel, 1/2.3-inch type, backside-illuminated CMOS sensor to shoot pictures. Like its predecessor model, the sensor is coupled with TruePic VII-brand processor. OlympusStylus TG-870 also kept same 5x optical zoom lens having 21-103 mm focal length and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). The ruggedness specs remain great as always- TG-870 camera is waterproof up to 50 feet, crushproof up to 220 pounds( 100kgf), freezeproof down to 14° F (-10°C), and shockproof for 7 feet (2.1m) height and fully dustproof.
The 180-degree tilting screen makes it very easy to snap selfies. There is a programmable button at front-side which can be customized as a secondary shutter release button. There are a variety of video recording modes available in Stylus TG-870 including 1080p Full HD @60fps and slow-motion recording @120fps with 854 x 480 resolution.
For video recording, the TG-870’s got a variety of shooting modes up to 1080p full HD at 60 frames per second (fps). It can also record slow-motion video at 120 fps at up to 854 x 480 resolution or 240 fps at up to 640 x 360 resolution. Basic performance and shooting standards are kept almost same, though with better GPS synchronization and new filters.
