Reliance Jio In Talks With Qualcomm To Launch Laptops With SIM Card
According to report from The Economic Times, the tech giant Reliance Jio is in talks with the U.S. based Qualcomm chipmakers to launch laptops with 4G SIM support capability. With built-in Jio 4G cellular connection in the Indian market, the 4G enabled laptop will be running Windows 10. Now Qualcomm has further started talks with Reliance and Jio Retail to bring out 4G enabled feature phone.
Miguel Nunes, Senior Director of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies told ET, “…we have talked to Jio. They could take the device and bundle it with data and content.” They are also in talks with the Internet of Things (IoT) brand Smartron to bring Snapdragon 835-powered laptops with mobile network connectivity feature.
Mahesh Lingareddy, Smartron’s founder and the CEO,”Since we already have tbook line of computing products, we are always exploring innovative form factors and devices where we can bring tronX experiences, services, solutions, and support to users.”
Qualcomm is already working with Asus, HP, and Lenovo to bring “Always Connected PCs” to life and Reliance is involved in the same type of project. But still, we have not seen laptops running Qualcomm chipset so it will take some time for Jio to launch their own 4G laptop with a SIM slot.
