Keep on reading till the end to learn step by step method to take control of your Windows 10 PC.
How To Stop Windows 10 From Automatically Updating Your PC Drivers, Which Are Causing Problems On Your PC
To fix this, I used Powershell to hide the touchpad driver update, so Windows 10 won’t be able to update the drivers anymore:
Step 1: Uninstall the driver which is causing you problems from the Control Panel
Step 2: Download Windows Update PowerShell Module
Step 3: Extract the folder to C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules
Step 4: Open Powershell as administrator. You can access Powershell by pressing Win+x keys.
Step 5: Type the following commands
PS> Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Force
PS> Import-Module PSWindowsUpdate
You should see a list of updates in a list. It would look something like this.
Computer Name : DESKTOP-FAC78CF KB: Size: 91 MB Status: D----- Title: Synaptics driver update for Synaptics SMBus TouchPad
In my case, I had to “hide” the Synaptics driver update.
PS> Hide-WUUpdate -Title "Synaptics driver*"
It asks for a confirmation then you can go ahead and give it a confirmation. Now when you run Get-WUList command again the status will be changed like below:
ComputerName: DESKTOP-FAC78CF KB: Size: 91 MB Status: D--H-- Title: Synaptics driver update for Synaptics SMBus TouchPad
The H in the status confirming that the update won’t be shown in Windows Update anymore and my old drivers won’t be overwritten.
If you already facing a problem with some driver of your device which happened after the update then best option will be to roll back to the previous version of the same driver. Here you can find the easy way to do so.
